Setup: I have an HP touch-screen laptop that came with the Vista operating system, but I don’t like it for a number of reasons. One is that it is a memory hog. 1 Gig of memory would be fine for another OS but it is the minimum you can get by with for Vista. You really need 2 Gigs to have enough memory for games and multiple apps. And, another complaint but nothing to do with Vista, if a laptop has 1 Gig preinstalled then it is most likely in the form of two 512 MByte sticks, using both memory slots. Cheaper that way, for them, but you have to replace both sticks to upgrade, i.e. can’t just add the extra.

Great deal: This week I ran across a great deal, $29 for 1 Gig of laptop memory. I ordered two sticks Monday and they arrived today. Over $200 worth of memory for about 60 bucks.
The idiot factor: This morning I unscrewed the memory-socket cover on the bottom of my newish laptop and guess what I saw plugged in, already plugged in. Not two 512 Meg sticks, but, wait; are you thinking “a 1 Gig stick and, so, Mr. Kada ordered one stick too many”? Well, no, not one too many! Mr. Kada ordered two sticks too many.
It must be my other laptop that could use some memory. Unfortunately, it uses the older “PC” style memory and what I just bought is “PC2″, so can’t use it there.
The birth of Mr. Kada: After thinking of myself as not exactly Mr. Know-it-all and can-do-it-all, i.e. Mr. Kada, I registered the domain name http://mrkada.com. I don’t know what I will do with it but registering it without plans for it seems exactly like the kind of thing a pretend Mr. Kada would do.

We went to the coast twice last week to pick up a doll collection Jeanne bought. She is now happily going through the boxes, identifying, sorting, cleaning, dressing and all the other things you do with dolls. There must be 800 or more. Most she will resell, some she will keep, a few, i.e. about 3 boxes, she will give away to local charities. These last ones still have play value but are just not worth the space in her already full doll store. She is so excited. So are her friends. One is going to come a week earlier than previously planned just to help with the work. Did I say work? |

| It was gloomy, both trips, both days. I was afraid rain would slow the loading but we got lucky. We also got lucky with two van loads being exactly enough. If you look at the pictures below of the second load you will see how full the van was. I had to take many dolls out of the boxes in order to fill every nook and cranny. Luckily Jeanne has prepared me over the years for just such a challenge.

And even more luck, we found a new favorite restaurant! |

| On the way back on the first day we stopped at a super restaurant, new to us. They have an unusual buffet with an outstanding Mongolian grill. You fill your plate with raw ingredients and submit them to a cooking performance. The sizzle and aroma are enough for an appetizer and the flavors are a great reward. It was quite an experience for all three of us. The rest of the buffet was also different from what we are use to with octopi and other unusual dishes. The restaurant is the Royal Super Buffet on highway 49 just 3 or 4 miles north of Interstate 10. Too bad the second-day pass-by was not near meal time. We look forward to going back to the coast. Jeanne would love to have the same excuse. |
