New Old
Jeanne is thinking about buying a new picture for over the fireplace. I am going to have to express an opinion. I would like to get it right. Help! Maybe I should take the safe ground and suggest she display one for a few months, then the other. Too bad they are not different seasons which would then make for a natural rotation. I think I would prefer pictures of the season opposite from the current one, or at least different from the current one. Don’t we long for summer in the winter, and winter in the summer? Or is it more like spring in the winter and fall in the summer? However, the two pictures under discussion appear to be of the same season.

Liked it; all about the CIA. When we stood up to leave Jeanne said:

Of course they will have to kill us all now.

I like it when they applaud.

I like the part of the ceremony where the new graduates stand and turn to face the faculty, and applaud, and smile, and look so glad that they are through. And we helped, a lot.

This is half of them. The 1st ceremony was earlier in the day. We are growing.

Christmas Lights
A grand effort, a grand success

Thursday, December 21st, 2006
And I thought I was a yard monkey. I am just a yard wanna-bee.

The Lewis’s, i.e. two sisters and a husband_or_brother, have created a most enjoyable Christmas experience, a wonderland of lights with the Nativity story interwoven. There are paths that wind in and out of the displays and lights. Did I say lights, several hundred thousands of individual ones. It takes months to put them up and replacing burnt-out bulbs is a continuous effort. The Lewis’s have been doing this since the ’80s around their home which is about 15 minutes south west of Hattiesburg on the way to Purvis, but not visible from the main road, Hwy 11. Ask if you would like directions.

It is about a 20 minute walk through all the paths. Part of that time you will be pausing to view Christmas scenes and other scenes with season related themes. There were elves in a log and much more that I did not shoot. If it had not been raining I would have taken more pictures. The posters were very well drawn by the artist sister. The Christmas story is told in billboard fashion along one of the paths. Each billboard is spot-lit which makes reading easy.

The trip was very enjoyable, even in the rain. We will be going back. In the meantime Gary, Jeanne, and Kurt wish you all a merry, merry Christmas.
