I’m back
Halloween

and so are the village people.
Some medical technology students in the spirit of the day. I asked them the name of their group and, you guessed it, “The Village People”.

I have had a little sick leave from the blog. I hurt my back, just watered a potted plant and felt a little pull, such a tiny sensation. It didn’t bother me at all until I got up the next morning. Then I had to use a cane to walk and had to remain very vertical. So, when I shower I normally lift my legs one at a time to wash them, but couldn’t do that. Otherwise I would have noticed the infection sooner. By the time I noticed it my entire right leg below the knee, but not the foot, was red, i.e. inflamed with cellulitis. Here’s a description from Mayoclinic’s site.

Cellulitis (sel-u-LI-tis) is a potentially serious bacterial infection of your skin. Cellulitis appears as a swollen, red area of skin that feels hot and tender, and it may spread rapidly.

Skin on the face or lower legs is most commonly affected by this infection, though cellulitis can occur on any part of your body. Cellulitis may be superficial — affecting only the surface of your skin — but cellulitis may also affect the tissues underlying your skin and can spread to your lymph nodes and bloodstream.

Left untreated, the spreading bacterial infection may rapidly turn into a life-threatening condition. That’s why it’s important to recognize the signs and symptoms of cellulitis and to seek immediate medical attention if they occur.

The doctor threatened to put me in the hospital unless I promissed to remain horizontal with my leg higher than my head. He was looking at Jeanne when he said this and she made sure I stuck to my promise. No sitting at the computer, no sitting at the table. You get the idea. Then when I was more mobile I was so far behind in my work I didn’t have time for the second tier of living, which includes yard piddling and blogging. When I retire these will be promoted to the first tier of living.

Ragweed

Want to increase traffic to your site? Then come up with a post about ragweed. Check out this blog comment. (local cache)

Did you read JY Biscuit’s story? Sorry to contribute to her problems by linking so here is a picture of a ragweed to help take up some of the ragweed-search load.

A great weekend

A Post in progress: This is going to take awhile so I will just work on it here in the open.

A trip “up-the-road” on Saturday. I’ll let the pictures pretty* much speak for themselves. Recall that “up-the-road” is what we call a little place about 10 minutes up the road.
* pun intended

The last photo above is just to fill out the matrix and is actually one of 4 mums Jeanne had for me when I came home from work today, not from “up-the-road” at all.

An oxen farm visit on Sunday.

Goldenrod

There are a lot of goldenrods about this time of year. It is a plant convicted of a crime it did/does not commit. I am one of many who have associated the goldenrod with common pollen allergies, when actually its pollen is heavy, too heavy to normally be carried by the wind or to bother a passerby. The real culprit, a plant often found in the field with the goldenrod, is the ragweed. Thank you EROD for that.

whataburger1396.jpg (72079 bytes) So, leaving the farm we headed to the Mobile Flea Market but not before stopping by Whataburger for a … you know.
If I keep showing you shots of the Mobile Flea Market you will likely come to feel right at home.

Sunny Rain and Coordinated Walkers

Wednesday, October 4th, 2006
Yesterday I had a rare but enjoyable experience on the way from the office, rain and sunshine at the same time.

Today I had a rare but enjoyable experience on the way to the office, coordinated walkers. I have no idea what their motivation was but it might be a good way to demonstrate team work.

The Truth about Truth

Wednesday, October 4th, 2006

During the day I am usually focused, thinking about the task at hand. However in my morning shower my mind wanders and it is my pleasure to see where it goes. Sometimes I create a short story, more like a scene from a short story, sometimes faux wisdom, sometimes a creative approach to a task, or maybe just a daydream where everyone likes me and thinks I am a neat old fellow. However, showers are not nearly long enough to exhaust the potential so occasionally I like to have a day where I mostly just sit or stroll in a quite room or in the yard and free my mind. Well, this morning it was just shower thoughts and they led to the following conversation in the kitchen. I entered, gave Jeanne a hug and a kiss, and asked her:

Me: Do you want to know the truth about truth?

Jeanne: What is it?

Me: You can’t trust it.

Jeanne: That’s true.

Hi Bud

Monday, October 2nd, 2006
Before going to work this morning I was out in the yard taking pictures when I discovered my neighbor’s latest entry in the “Blooming Wars”. Of course she doesn’t even know there is a competition … unless she discovers my blog. Whoops.
Tuesday: This morning Bud was a Betty and Betty is still yellow and more yellow that the older bloom. I’m not sure which I like best.

Shy Not
Don’t hate me for the water drops, I didn’t do it to get a wet-flower picture. That is so last … month.

Angel trumpet shoots

Sunday, October 1st, 2006
I planted this angel trumpet back .. uh, you remember. Anyway, it has grown very little, just a few new leaves up top. I was wondering how long it was going to take to get settled, i.e.  rooted. Has the weather been too hot? I don’t know but now that it is cooler I noticed a new shoot. Actually Jeanne did.
The Hat? Don’t you tip your hat to your camera? If I leave my camera on the tripod in the sun I’ll drop my hat over it. Of course in this case it is just for the picture since the camera is in my hand. duh! Wait. Idea! I could tell Jeanne that I need a new camera just for such a shot. Wait. No, won’t work. She’ll just ask why I don’t use the other cameras I already have.
Jeanne once said that she would have bought my Christmas gift at the tool store but she did not know what I already had. I told her not to worry about it next time because I didn’t have two of anything. Which is not actually true but I was trying to be funny (and I may have told this story before).

Puberty

Sunday, October 1st, 2006
1. Back in June I wondered about these volunteers in my front planter. Probably cannas? I had planted some a few seasons ago but have not seen them in recent years.
2. Then in August I thought they looked more like banana plants.
3. Today: Ah, puberty. Banana it is!
