Now, not just "Yard" piddling but piddling of all kinds.

| As promissed in a March 17 post here is a picture of the small handheld switch I made to help eliminate press-the-shutter-button shake. The right side picture was taken before I aded the cable which required a connector I later purchased at Radio Shack. One switch is a toggle-on and controls the automatic focus, if used. The other is momentary and is the shutter release. Here is a similar switch someone else made, with instructions.
The milling machine? Mine. I have a small mill and lathe that I use for piddling, and some repair. |

Brother-in-law
|
Went to see Mom Sunday and on the way stopped by my sister’s house to give her a print of this 8×10. Took it last Christmas. The two of them are so sweet together I thought she would like a copy. In any event, look what Kurt and I found in the yard, a yard animal. We didn’t wake him, he didn’t even know we were there (or did he?). |

Much, much, much better. See how the pollen is no longer elongated. This was taken using a remote switch I made this afternoon, picture later. Original photo here (well not exactly the original, it is jpeg reduced). All the photos were taken with natural light.
Below is a bud on the same plant. Now to work on technique. |

Even with a tripod there was too much “activate the shutter” shake. Notice how the pollen is indistinct, is elongated. I need some sort of remote activation, maybe an RF or IR remote unit. The camera does has a USB connection and I could activate from my laptop. OK, thinking again (although there has been entirely too much of that lately). |
| Addendum: Don’t know how much a ring-flash would help this situation. Wish this lens was an IS (Image Stablized) like my “Zoom Telephoto EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS Image Stabilizer USM”. I’m not sure I mentioned having that lens, haven’t had it long. I’ve been way too busy. Wish I was retired, and I don’t mean “tired again”. |

Dianthus ?
|
Ordered Friday, was to come today but came yesterday. bhPhotoVideo you are great.
Click on the image. See the pollen? After a little experience with the lens I expect the photos to be mar-ve-lous. However I am going to need a ring flash. With the additional light I will be able to greatly increase the depth of field. The Cannon ring flash is $449. A cheap, no-frills 3rd party product is $69 or so. I think I’ll hold out for the Canon and its enhanced features, maybe a Sigma. This selection will take a little study. (See last Saturday’s post for a picture of the lens.)
Actually the above is a crop from the photo to the left and is not a macro-shot. I took the original at 3 mega-pixel, not the 5 the camera is capable of. I then reduced everything to be web friendly.

I used the “pan” above on a site I am developing for Calico Mall. If you are ever in Hattiesburg please stop by and be sure to see my wife’s doll shop, an integral part of the mall.
The panoramic adapter I used is show to the left. This photo is from the manufacturer’s site, 0-360.com.
The image above is animated by a Java applet but when laid flat it looks like the following, reduced here to 36%. |

I should receive a new lens from BHphotovideo.com the first of the week. It is the Canon 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro Autofocus Lens, emphasis on “Macro”. This should enable some really nice close-ups with the Digital Rebel. Take a look.

Of course the best views are going to be though the lens, not of it.

These are from different

the case of the first
two in my neighbor’s.

The two blooms on the left are from the same camellia bush. This diversity always intrigues me, or is it from grafting? |
