Back in April we went to Inverness Florida to ride in a recumbent gathering. We rode the Withlachoochee rails-to-trail bike and recreational path, riding south on one day and north on the next. We also went to a neat flea market in a nearby town. Maybe I’ll tell more and show photos over on bentrider.info. In any case, that is not all we did.
We were only about 30 minutes from Bill and Lucy (Jeanne’s sister) so spent one evening with them, joining them first at a really good BBQ restaurant and then after dinner spending the evening at their place. It was just as neat and spiffy as always, and they were warm hosts as always. Bill and Lucy really enjoy living in the Villages. Lucy loves the social activities; the gathering of Easter stuff on her counter evidence of something coming up. Bill plays a lot of golf and really likes living right on a golf course, and having many others to choose from. It was great seeing them in such good spirits and they seem to be having as much fun in their retirement as we are in our’s.

Whenever we see them we often think about the good times we had when they lived in Hattiesburg and Bill worked at the University with me. I’ll share one particular memory. Lucy is very creative and has expressed that creativity in different ways over the years. At one time she made small figures for display boxes and I believe that she now makes ornamental Christmas trees for sale on ebay. At the time I am remembering she was buying small antiquities and selling them on the web. Since I was building web sites and hosting them as an adjunct activity I offered to set her up a site, for free of course. She would need a name and I suggested Lucy’s Hits. She liked that. Everyone liked it. Then I observed that, of course, she would need a domain name and it would need to be lucyshits.com. We laughed and laughed and laughed. I was driving and she was sitting behind me which made pulling the hair at the nap of my neck convenient. We laughed, she pulled, we laughed, she pulled. It was a great time.

On the way back from our Xenia, Ohio trip this summer we stopped off in Jasper, Alabama and visited my brother Mike and his wife Mary. It had been a while since I’d seen him and he has been on my mind since. Today I ran across a story from him and thought I would share it. I don’t remember when he sent the email but it was a long time ago. It was when he still had a computer store which he no longer has. My loss! Well, it was nice having a brother with his own computer store. Of course it is nicer just having a brother.
He wrote:
“Hi Brother,
I drove up to the Arby’s drive up window. I had ordered their special - 5 roast beef’s for 5.95. Pretty good deal. I was counting my money when the fellow came to the window with a sack in his hand. I looked at him and told him I wanted some ketchup, regular sauce and horsey sauce. He just stood there with a silly grin on his face. I figured he didn’t hear me so I repeated myself. He never moved. A**h***.
The thought flashed through my mind to just get out and snatch his a** out through the window and then ask him if he put my sauces in the bag. It is 2AM and I’m still working at the store so maybe I’m not in the best of moods. I’m civilized so naturally I didn’t do it. It was a nice thought for a couple of seconds. Anyway, I said to h*** with it…I’ll pay the S** and use the ketchup I have at the store.
I almost broke a knuckle when I reached out to pay him. After I got the window down, I paid the S**. He was still grinning like a j***a** eating briers when I drove off. D***. Double D***.
Mike”

You gotta love him. How could you not?

My family gets together on Christmas Eve for a pot-luck and to exchange gifts and good times. On the way there we visited Jeanne’s older sister Carolyn, which we also do every year. At Carolyn’s I was examining her tree and noticed an interesting ornament, an angel made from her wedding dress. |

Relatives came over with gifts, early, since they were going out of town. She, whom we all love, insisted we open, so we did. My son, son of a smarty-pants, couldn’t let an opportunity pass.
Kurt:: "I like it and even though you got it on sale for $10 you still get credit for a $20 gift."
She: "Why thank you. But … how did you know?"
Laughter all around.
She: "I can’t believe I did that". Hides head and face under jacket hood. |

Merry Christmas And may you enjoy your inlaws as much as we do ours. |

He had just gotten up and stumbled into the living room.
Me: "What’s wrong with your pants?"
He: "I probably put them on inside out and the seams are showing."
Me: "You need to look in the mirror." |

| I think she even accelerates in the driveway. |
 |
Jeanne: |
I went over and told her what I did and that I would fix it. |
| Me: |
I’ll fix it. |
| Jeanne: |
I’m the one that did it. |
Me: |
I’ll take care of it. How long have you been married to me? |
| Jeanne: |
Not nearly long enough. |
| Me: |

| On the way home from staying with Mom last night I daydreamed a cartoon strip entitled "Elmo, the alligator that likes frogs". He likes them as friends and sometimes can not help liking them for lunch. (Where in the world did that idea come from? No idea! Ah, maybe from the fact that Jeanne use to publish a frog cartoon in the local paper, or maybe from the dash).
Cartoon 1 Elmo’s best friend: Hello Elmo. Have you seen that hoppy of mine? Elmo: No, not since lunch.
Cartoon 2 Two frogs on their backs on a lily pad with their hands behind their heads looking up at the clouds (these frogs have cartoon hands). Frog 1: Isn’t it a wonderful day? Frog 2: Yes but I have had a feeling of doom since lunch. And then we notice a pair of alligator eyes sticking up out of the water overlooking the pad.
Ok, Ok, it entertained me while I drove. I’m sure you figured out by now that cute refers to the socks, not the cartoons. The cartoons? That’s the “not funny” part.
Here’s another picture of frog socks. |

| She has been on a trip for almost 2 weeks but comes home Tuesday (tomorrow!) night. I can hardly wait. She is so sweet, intelligent, and a blessing to live with. I am so wanting a hug, for starters. |

Saturday lunch at Longhorn. |

|
Monday 6 inch breakfast delight.
No, I didn’t eat it. |
| When Jeanne came into the kitchen this morning to fix breakfast I had this surprise for her from the early morning yard. Look how well the bloom matches her bowl.

| Here are some more charming relations from Labor-day weekend. I love them all, every one. I featured some youngsters and teenagers in last Sunday’s post, now some still-newlyweds. You gotta love those smiles. They are sisters and were both married on the beach at Gulf Shores Alabama, but not in the same year. Below are a couple of pictures from last year’s wedding (for the sister without the baby). |

| My family is “UP”. When we get together it is a happy time, and loud with laughter. There are plenty of hugs and smiles to go around. Well, one sister is sometimes a little grim but we love her then too. |

These are my mom’s youngest two great-grandkids, and they had a ball this weekend in Mobile. It was a really nice time, partly cloudy, not too hot.
We let the kids be kids. They will grow up all too soon, finding other interests, other toys, like the two on the left. |

| Yesterday was our 42nd. Neither one of us remembered until today when Jeanne dated a check. Oh well. We were married in 1964 after being engaged for 4 years. She was worth waiting for. Her name is pronounced “Jean” but I most often say “Jean_nee”.
The picture is from the February archives, but I like it. |

Prior to this blog I placed selected family photos at this site, johnsey.info. Probably the only people who care are the ones featured but you might find some amusement there. And as long as you are looking at family pictures you might as well see my hudson family.
